Apprentices take over the House of Commons
On the 9th of MARCH 2017 a reception was hosted by the Minister of State for Apprenticeships and Skills, the RT Hon Robert Halfon MP.
160 apprentices travelled to the House of Commons and Minister Robert Halfon, Nus Ghani MP and Joe Billington, National Apprenticeship Service, all addressed the apprentices and employers who attended.
Caitlin Smyth, 2nd year apprentice with Middlesex Aerospace was pleased to be invited to attend and joined apprentices from across England, all undertaking a variety of different apprenticeships. They spent time talking to the Minister and networking with other apprentices.
The event was to celebrate the success of apprenticeships and the national “Apprenticeship Week” over the last decade and aims to encourage even more people to choose apprenticeships as a fast-track to a great career.
Caitlin commented ‘ It was a great experience and it was inspiring to hear from both the speakers and other apprentices. I do believe the schemes we are all on offer us the best of both mixing education and training within the workplace’.
Roger Rustell, Middlesex Aerospace Apprentice Mentor added ‘It really is encouraging to see the government ministers giving their full support to apprenticeships. The future skills of the country are born out of apprenticeships and we at Middlesex Aerospace are true believers in securing the future of our apprentices along with the future of our business.‘
